Do I need a Treatment Plant Installation?

Good question. The answer is likely to be “yes” if you currently have a septic tank.

UK Government legislation – available here – states that septic tanks must not discharge to a watercourse, such as a river or a stream. You should also get professional advice to establish what kind of system you have and what needs to be done to meet current rules.

Importantly, this also applies if you are looking to sell or purchase a property with a septic tank. The buyer and seller must agree on who will be responsible for the upgrade of the tank to a treatment plant. In other words, this must be established as a condition of sale.

Why should I upgrade to – or install – a Treatment Plant?

Treatment plants can be installed for any premises – from a single house – right up to multiple premises. Here at MRL, we can provide the right treatment plant for your specific needs.

Above all, the main advantage of a Treatment Plant over older systems such as septic tanks or cesspits is that they are now the only drainage solution that is permitted by government legislation to discharge treated waste into a watercourse.

Septic tanks and cesspits will need regular emptying. Similarly, although Treatment Plants will also need emptying of solid waste by a reputable service provider such as ourselves, this is on a far less frequent basis. This is an equalilly important advantage over the unsophisticated and environmentally unfriendly alternatives.

Additionally, a treatment plant can also be installed in different soil types. This means that there is not as much need to ensure that the area they are placed has a porous enough composition to filter the liquid through a soakaway.

In conclusion, this is where MRL Drain Services can help.

We provide a full range of treatment plant installation services to domestic and commercial customers across Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire.

What People Are Saying About Us

Gully clearance and jetting to storm drains

“I have used various Tanker companies over the years. I called Martin to discuss works and could tell within minutes of being on the phone with him that he was very knowledgeable.

I can honestly say that to date no other company I have previously used has been as punctual, polite and very professional at all times, especially when it came to safety coning off and use of barriers for pedestrians,

I would highly recommend his services.  I would just like to finish by saying a huge thank you to both Martin and his colleagues”

Customer Since 2014

Catastrophic water treatment plant failure fixed

"Our water treatment plant had failed catastrophically and needed replacing in late 2020.

It was our understanding from the house's previous owner that treated water was piped to a local stream. The tank failure, therefore, was a major cause of concern from environmental and financial penalty aspects.

These issues were accentuated by the effects of lockdown.

However, Martin gave us immediate confidence to take our worries away. He put in a tactical solution to ensure we would not be able to cause contamination whilst he and Ashley sourced and fitted the new tank.

Following its fitting there were issues with the legacy outlet pipe that Martin traced and cleared.

Martin came by way of a recommendation and I can not recommend him and his services highly enough. Outstanding professionalism and customer service."

Leak caused by tree root ingress repaired

“We had water leaking up onto our drive. Martin first removed some tree roots that had partly blocked our drain.

He then needed to dig a small trench to isolate the part of our water mains pipe that had perished, attach a replacement section, refill the hole with roadstone (strong enough to support vehicles driving over it) and tidy up so that it looked the same as before (but without the leaking water!).

We were very grateful for how promptly it was all handled, with Martin clearly explaining at each stage the likely problem, how it would be fixed and how long it would take. He did a great job.”
